Natural, Yearning

Crimson cardinal,
His ground standing,
Proud presence announcing,
Resonant chirp,
Carving spring air,
Brilliance of plume,
Sepia of wilting winter,
Clinging to the past,
Resisting his clarion call,
Verdant spring,

Crimson cardinal,
Passionate pursuing,
Embodied desire,
Proclaiming change,
Shouting zest for life,
A mate,
So seeking…

Natural, yearning.

Your smile,
Intoxicating as scent of spring,
Hint of lush love,
Hint of connection,
Hint of forever,
Coming home.

My past,
Framed, similar sepia,
Winter’s drab
Damning, dreary,
Clutching my heart,
Determined, thwarting,
Love, lost.

But you,
Beautiful you…

My spring,
Life blooming,
Inspiriting chorus,
Filling my heart,
Flush with cardinal’s crimson,
Flush with breeze’s vernal dream.

Are meant to be.

A promise,

A hunger,

Natural, yearning.

    1. Thank you Gianna. I’ve seen so many male cardinals outside my home office when I’m working on the weekend. I’m entranced by the brilliance of their chirp and plumage. They pursue life with such vigor. So simple, but so inspiring.

      Thank you for the thoughts.

  3. Beautifully written, Bill…Cardinals are quite magnificent birds, I’ve seen a few today, but sadly only through my computer screen.
