Racking Bend

Taught, tawny hemp,
Serpentine sinew,
Twisting, interlocking,
Passion’s rigging enjoining,
Our bodies, unabashedly,
Entwine.

Heat, moisture, gale,
Straining our rigging,
Sails ripped by the winds,
Our emotions, a tempest,
Building deep, from within.

My halyards, your sheeting,
Diameters differ,
But straining, load bearing,
Raw energy constraining,
Release, unashamedly, airing.

Weave with me now,
Our bodies, our cables,
Hawser and cordage,
Strength joining and vibrant,
Around me, you bend.

Figure eights with your tendrils,
Enrobing, confining,
Constraining, abiding,
You wrap me, inside you,
Our one unique knot.

Our marlinspike journey,
Entangles two bodies,
Enchanting, embracing,
Your beauty, I’m facing,
Our lush racking bend,
Our Valentine’s, binding.

A Racking Bend is a specialized knot joining ropes of different sizes. The smaller of the lines weaves layers of figure 8s through a loop of the larger…brought then together to be one.

What a wonderful metaphor for two lovers of different sizes, different backgrounds, different life experiences…committing to one another to bear the same loads, the same burdens, woven together, now joined forever.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

      5. Haha! Hey you haven’t heard? Foil hats are being replaced with colored construction paper… yeah… apparently the cost of production is getting a bit too pricey. Gotta go cheap! LOL

Don’t worry… I have a secret stash of foil somewhere in my kitchen. We may be out of style, but we’ll still have our foil! πŸ˜„

We’re a mess! The world is not ready for us, Bill! hahaha!
