Where My Softness Hides (Spoken Word Poetry)

Hello my friends,

I so appreciate your willingness to let me explore spoken word poetry! It’s really helpful to see what works and what doesn’t. 😊

Here is a rendering of my post 02 Jan 2019, “Where My Softness Hides.” A marvelous poet, Dorothy (deyspublishing.wordpress.com) encouraged me and emboldened me to post the spoken word, and in particular, this work. Thank you Dorothy!!! Here you are my friend.

Hardness, rough,
Worn and calloused,
Your fingertips sense,
A rawness in me.

Your satin, your elegance,
Confront all my coarseness,
My stubble, my edges,
Plain truth in this man.

Tenderness, shimmering,
Rich warmth in my gazes,
A whispering gentleness,
You feel in my voice.

A secret, you’re sure of,
Obscured in the toughness,
I’m shrouding soft portions,
My spirit protects.

But now in this moment,
Epiphany beckons,
My steeliness, armor,
Melt with your touch.

Embraced, unrelenting,
Our bodies a sanctum,
We face one another,
Enigmas exposed.

Your eyes right before me,
Moist breaths, rich reflections,
Painting our passion,
Our cheeks bathed in breeze.

Noses, just grazing,
Our pulses, emboldened,
My heart now you filling,
Consummation so close.

Then, in this moment,
Our lips finally touching,
A brilliance, a sparking,
Forever, foretold.

But now I’ve relented,
Exposed to you secrets,
My toughness, my hardness,
A shallow façade.

Our lips lying naked,
My gentleness tasted,
No longer my tenderness
Can I deny,

A secret, a weakness,
My lips speaking truthful,
Now sharing with you,
Where my softness can hide.

  1. So soft.

Bill, could you speak this, or any of your poems? I want to hear the rhythm. I ask because sometimes I only catch the flow halfway through. I want to catch it at the beginning.

Forgive me for not mentioning it earlier. I’m new to this style of poetry and I want to do I justice. I want to grow.

    1. Hi Dorothy! Interesting that you asked as I’ve been thinking of doing exactly that. I need to sort out how to do that on WP, and then will do so.

Maybe even in the next day or so!

So very kind of you! Thank you for asking!

      1. I needed your rhythm. Now I can flow with your paceas I read. Thank you for taking the time to speak it for me. It’s greatly appreciated. You didn’t have to do it, but I’m so glad that you did. 😊
