Not Here, But Just Beyond Our Now

My love,
Even though
We cannot be together,

I sense the whisper of your grace,

Everyday.

So close,

So close
To me.

And I feel a heat,
A spectrum of energy,
Pervasive,
Enrobing me,
Consuming me…

In every moment
Of my life.

That’s you
As well,
I’m sure…

All around me.

And you?

Did you feel my heartbeat,
The pulse of my devotion,
Caress your cheek
This morning?

Did you absorb
My warmth
In the new day’s sun,
Washing over your beautiful face?

Did you feel a swell
Of comfort,
Of happiness,
Of living,

Everything I long
To give you,

When you noticed
That singularly special
Orchid blossom
Finally opened…

Cascading rich,
Lustrous hues
Of gentle elegance
For your eyes to consume?

Don’t you understand
That all of those sensations,
Are simply a premonition
Of me wanting,

And loving,

And missing you,
So badly?

But take heart,
My love…

Our lives,
Our smiles,
Our bodies,

Cannot be sewn together,
Into our tapestry of forever
Just yet.

We cannot consummate
Our dream of tomorrow
Just yet.

Not here.

But reflect,

And dream,

And think
Of my eyes
Gazing into yours,

Longing for you.

I’ll have you
In my arms again
So soon.

Not here,

But just beyond…

Just beyond our now.

      1. Well…that’s kind of you to say that I deserve it. But really, what’s most important is that we find a way to connect with, and add to those around us during this so short time that we’re on this planet. Yes?

Your words and encouragement, add so much to me…

        And for that,

        I say

        Thank you!!!

      1. Thank you my friend…and I am.

There’s a glorious gum tree nearby, just radiant in fall colors, splashed with the setting sun.

So pure, and simple, and perfect…

And the fitting closure to my day.

I hope the same beauty found you today!

  1. i like the “just beyond our now” – time is just relative to feelings someone can keep strong and alive in us, and your poetry says that so lovingly. nice Bill, a very lovely Sunday morning read for me.

    1. Well…I’m so glad that I added to your Sunday morning Gina…as you added to my Saturday night.

And yes…the nexus of time and feelings is so special…and important.

Really glad that you liked it!!

      1. lovely Saturday evening to you Bill – see time is just relative isn’t it! serendipity I say when worlds collide and connect through the magic of words. liked it very much, some food for thought as I begin my day.

  2. Such a lovely poem Bill, the longing, the yearning but at the same time reality that possibility of union at present is not there. It remindes me W. B Yeats poem written to his beloved. The fact that one can’t consummate right now increases the passions and longing!
