Melody

It had been a long,
Hard
Week for you.

I could tell as Monday blended
With Tuesday,
And Tuesday the remainder,
That your work had been crushing,
And drawing from you,
All your joy.

So when Friday finally arrived,
And our week,
Mercifully came to a close,
I sensed your desperate
Longing for rest.

And with you,
My love,
In mind,

I set out this Friday afternoon,
Before you got home,
To think of everything
You needed done…

And then I did those things.

The plans for dinner?

Nothing special…
I just wanted to prepare something
That I know you would love.

And when you finally got home,
Exhausted…
I took the bags from your hands,
And in return,
Offered you a glass of wine.

With a grateful look in your eyes,
You stepped out of those heels,
And trudged upstairs,
To change out of your work life,
Into your home life,

Unbound…
Comfortable…
With me.

And it didn’t matter
How long you needed
To undress,
And put those jammies on,

Take all the time you need,

No night on the town,
Just a good dinner together,
And a few glasses of wine,
While we watch
A classic romance movie…

At home,
With you curled up next to me.

And that’s what we did.

But it wasn’t too long
Before I sensed your eyelids
Getting heavy.

Exhausted from your week,
You gave in to sleep,
And rest…
What you needed,
More than anything.

As you journeyed deeper
Into your world,
Your breathing took on
A beautiful rhythm.

Pure,
Steady,
Placid…

Everything that I wanted to do,
To help,
And take care of you,
Had been done.

And in this moment of calm,
You gave to me a matchless
Gesture of thanks…

The tranquil glory,
And complete commitment,
Of your graceful sleep,

And the beautiful harmony
Of the whispers of your breathing…

All so peaceful,
All so perfect,

Singing to me,

Your elegant,

Delicate melody.

  1. And then you carried her off to bed and allowed her to peacefully sleep the rest of the night. She woke refreshed and grateful the next morning. What a great guy!! Ah, that all men could be so tender and thoughtful!
