The Indelicate Way Ahead

Neither of us
Wanted the crushing
Of our previous partners,
And dissociation
Of our previous lives…

So much history,
And family,
And emotional linkage,

Being torn apart…

Forcing us both
To face the undesirable,
But unavoidable…

Of our inadvertent love.

But that’s what life does,
Doesn’t it?

Even when we don’t seek
To upend our former relationships.

Even when we don’t seek
To distort our realities.

Even when we don’t seek
Alternative worlds…

It happens.

That someone new,

So serendipitously met,

Soothes an ache,
And loneliness.

That someone new,
Heals the pain
Of a forever emptiness.

That someone new,
So unexpectedly

Becomes someone

And once again,
The power,
And quirkiness,
And unapologetic wrenching
Of love

Tears us from our now,
Tears us from our norm,
Tears us from our past partners,

Leaving the both of us with
Hearts in our throats,
And the anquish of past dreams,
Now broken.

So we cling
To the promise
Of a new life,
With excitement
Struggling to forget the sadness
Of those we hurt.

Not looking back,

But still so anxious…

So anxious about

The indelicate way ahead.

    1. Thanks Maria…I was feeling a little gloomy last night when writing…and that led to the gloomy theme. Guess I was struggling with the uncertainties in life, and that bled over into my thoughts and words. 😦

      1. It’s really good. Some of the best poetry emerges that way. I am with you in terms of uncertainties. Did you hear from Meridith?

      2. Thanks Maria…I appreciate the understanding.

        And yes!

        I have connected with Meredith!!

She’s already sent me samples…looks like she can help me!! 🙂

      3. I though she could! No time for gloom. You have a book to publish.🙂
