Emotional Equinox

It is the longing
And sadness
Now
That guide my way
Toward darkness.

You,
In another world
Still cradle
My heart
Unknowingly
In your unsensing fingers.

Your eyes,
Brighter,
Now.

Your smile,
So permanent,
Now.

Your life,
Lifting,
Now…

On a journey
To happiness
And surety,

Knowing your way
Toward a brighter world…

Everything of grace
Lying ready for you,
In the spring
Of your new life.

And knowing
All of that,
I try to smile…

Looking through
Hollow eyes
As I stumble
Toward a winter
In my soul
Without you.

Two different
Lives now…

So separate,
So divergent,
So distant…

You in a glorious
Vernal epiphany…

Me,
In the fading of fall,
Struggling to find
An answer
To a life
Without you.

Two lives on either side
Of happiness,

Two lives on either side
Of emptiness,

Two lives on either side
Of the emotional equinox.

      4. When a man in this world longs for a woman like that, it means he has touched the root of his soul…the joy the sorrow. Write from that space.

  4. Oh man! Sooo good Bill! I especially loved the closing lines:
    “Two lives on either side
Of happiness,
    Two lives on either side
Of emptiness,
    Two lives on either side
Of the emotional equinox.”
Just pushed the entire poem over the top good.

  6. it is a beautiful love poem, but i also read it with my own backstory in my head, after losing my son, I still felt him living, on the other side of happiness, sorry to take it out of context but your poem reminds me of love that will endure no matter what.
