All I Can Give You…

So much
Has fallen in place
For us…

Just a man
And a woman
Wanting so desperately
To find fulfillment
And finality…

No more looking,
No more guessing,
No more hoping

For another
To match,
And mate,
And provide closure

To the endless searching.

I need you
To look
At me

I need you
To listen
To me

You understand clearly,
I believe,
That we
Come from
Different places.

The best schools,
The elegant
And chic clothes,
The unconstrained resources.

A school teacher’s son,
Single parent home.
Scarce financial resources,
Constant worry
About the morrow,

But an abundance
Of love
And commitment.

Such a contrast
Between our backgrounds
I admit,
And accept.

What I need
For you to know
At this point
In our unfolding relationship
Is that I will
Never be
A wealthy man.

I will never
Be able
To provide you
The lavish vacations
Which you enjoyed
With your family.

I will never
Be able to give you
The mansion,
The lifestyle
Or wealth
Of your past.

But this

I can give you…

I can give you
A destiny.

I can give you
A forever.

I can give you
A surety,

I can give you
Total commitment…

I can provide for you,
I can cook for you,
I can do chores for you,
I can help you,
I can support you,
Whenever you need me.

So now,

Just you,
And me,

Take my hands,
And look into my eyes.

Trust my testament
Of faith
To you,

And only

I’ll never
Be able
To give you riches,

I’ll never be able
To promise social status.

My love

I can promise you
My heart.

All I can give you,

All I can give you…

Is me.

  1. Yet, another beautifully written poem, my friend! In the end, none of that material stuff matters. Sure, we need money to buy basic needs and stuff, but being rich and famous, living in a big mansion, none of that stuff holds much weight when compared to what’s in a person’s heart. 🙂

  2. Yea! Love is the most important you can give and receive in life. We do not need all those many things, just the basics to live: food and a roof over our heads. Beautiful poem!

  5. So emotional, so romantic, and so beautiful. Indeed, true love, if found, is the greatest gift ever. It brings with it so much inner joy and peace. Every other thing is just an add-on. I love this poem. Blessings to you and yours, and have a great week ahead.👍👍
