Would That Please You?

So I’ve got
An idea…

Next Friday night,
Let’s have a date,
And stay at home.

I’ll stream some
Marvin Gaye,
Or John Legend…

Or whatever makes
You happy.

And how about
A glass of wine
While you sit at
The kitchen island,
Watching me
Prepare dinner for you?

It won’t be something
Quick,
Just thrown together.

No, the menu
For next Friday night
Will be an elegant take
On your favorites,

Paired with wines
To thoughtfully compliment
The weight, intensity,
And acidity of the sauces,
While being mindful
Of the tannins.

And as I’m working
On this dinner,
I’ll stop on occasion,

And read some of my verse
For you,

And if you’d like,
Slow-dance you
Around the kitchen…
Holding you so close.

Others might prefer
To go out for the evening,
Or believe that
All the preparation
And cleanup are simply
Too much work…

But not me.

I can’t think of a better way
To spend my Friday night
Other than cooking for,
And serving you.

If you want to do something else,
I understand…

But I’m hoping that
A quiet night
Together,

Enjoying some good wine,
And good cuisine…

And most importantly,
Enjoying one another…

Will be okay.

Would that please you?

  1. These are the best kind of dates. Except if it’s a first date, don’t pull out a can of whipped cream. I had a date do that, first thing out of his bag, and I misread it and panicked. Haha! 😀

  2. Simply wow! You’ve described it perfectly, the idea of a date as it should be- enjoying each other’s company whether in silence or chaos 🙂 Your lines transport me to ‘The Bridges of Madison County’, and for that, thank you!

      1. Oh Bill…. does she not run at the crack of your voice? Does she not melt at the love in your words? Ahhh maybe the challenge draws you. Lol relationships. Clearly she is an amazing woman to inspire your beautiful poetry!

  3. This is so romantic… though, if this were me trying to do this for someone, there may be a fire in the kitchen and a call to Pizza Hut. Lol. 😂

Very beautiful poem, my friend! I’m sure she would love that date! 😊

    1. Thanks so much! I’m into food and wine and cooking (a very long story…maybe for another post) and really meant those things. Love it! And…I suspect that there would be no fire in your kitchen. 🙂
