The Softer Side Of Me

Life has a way
Of tempering our steel,
Doesn’t it?

Constant pressure,
And stress,
Forge
A defiance,
And distance,

Guarding our hearts
From risk
And unwelcome uncertainty…

Scars shielding us
From subsequent hurt.

You understand this…

Don’t you?

And you know
As well,
My life has had
Its challenges,

High hazard,
Fraught with peril,
Striving to lead men
Through danger,
To accomplish the mission,

Set before us
By our country…

No trivial task.

But here’s what I know…

Despite the hardness
My career imbued in me,
From willing tasks
I gladly welcomed,

Seams in my
Emotional armor
Still exist,

Hidden from most…

But not you.

Somehow,
You knew what to say,
And what to leave
Unspoken.

You accepted
With patience
And commitment,

That an investment
Of time

Was the key
To my heart’s lock.

And now,
I stand here,
Before you,

So open,
And new,

Ready for a future,
For a forever
With you.

My greatest blessing,
Is that you found me…

And accepted me…

And revealed,

Once again,

The softer side of me.

  1. Wow. Wisdom is on full display here. The struggles of the protagonist are expressed beautifully. And love the way how you took it from struggles to love of your life. 😍😍😍😍😍
