Don’t Go There

We agreed
Mutually,
That this
Would not,
Could not…

Work,

Accepting
Yet again

Dissociation,
And ultimately,

Disillusionment,
And disappointment.

Decisions
Have consequences,
Don’t they?

So now,

I struggle,
And fight,

To move forward

To an uncertain
Future,

The scar
On my heart,
Not yet formed.

But doubt remains,

Perhaps with
You as well,

Pulling
To a past,

Demanding
Again…

A reckoning.

I will remain
Strong,

Won’t I?

I will move forward,

Won’t I?

Please,
Please don’t
Make me reconsider.

Please,
Please don’t
Pull me back,

To that
Other place…

Our place.

Know how susceptible,
I remain,

And vulnerable.

Please,
Please,

Don’t go there.

Unless…

You must.

  1. You’re welcome. My comment really should have read..” Not always easy to stick to one’s guns” . Just an old expression…” Stick to your guns'”. Take care Bill! Thank you always for reading my poems. Have a great Summer!
