Maybe That’s What You Want

It wasn’t what you said,
Or did,

But rather…

What you didn’t say,
And didn’t do…

That spoke volumes.

Having read that work
Before,

Suffocating,
As those words have been,
And continue to be

Tonight,

Once again,
I was force-fed
The pain…

Now.

Regardless of what I say,
Or do…

There is

No resonance,
No acceptance,
No timbre…

No…

Touch,

Just the disharmony
Of dissociation.

What are we,

Or what…

Were we?

So many years,
And dreams,

And elusive ideas

Of Elysian Fields…

Waning.

Maybe,

Maybe,

That’s what

You want.

    1. Bread is one of my all-time favorite groups, and “Diary” brought back so many memories of another place and time. Really thoughtful of you to make that connection. It was perfect Vera! As always, I so much appreciate your insight and reflections. Wonderful, so wonderful.

      1. Your poems always remind me of Bread. Maybe that’s the reason I love them. Apart from the beautiful words that seem to just roll off your tongue.

It just occurred to me you never knew my name until last night. I could really take umbrage at that, if I wanted to 🙂
