You Can’t Say That

It’s simply
Not that easy.

You say,

“It’s over.”

“We need to go
Our separate ways.”

“It was good while it lasted.”

All those superficial,
Shallow,
Revealing,
Catch-phrases,

Shout at me,
Ripping from me
The very essence
Of breath.

Stop.

Now.

Don’t trivialize what we are,
What we have…

Or maybe,
Now,

What we had.

I neither accept,
Nor agree,
With an

“It’s okay…you’ll find someone else.”

The fact of the matter is…

I won’t.

I will never find,
Again,
A woman like you.

Gut me if you will.

Tear from my heart,
The means to beat.

Cleave from my soul,
A life,
And future,
And hope for,
Forever.

But please,
Please don’t flippantly
Cast me,
Aside.

Don’t…

Please…

Don’t end us
So casually.

You can’t say that.
