In Another World…

In another world,
The love that burned
Through them both…
Could be fueled,
To a forever fire.

In another world,
They could touch
One another
And savor
The lingering
Sweetness of their love-making.

In another world,
They could laugh
And argue
And do the chores
And live a normal life,
Growing old together.

But in this world…

In this world…

All they could do,
Was acknowledge casual acquaintance.

All they could do,
Was gently shake hands,
Or exchange an
Unassuming,
Brief,
Public,
Hug.

In this world…

All they could do,
Was agonize on the inside,
While they forced
Fake smiles,
On the outside.

In this world…

They could never be…

What their hearts,
And minds,
And bodies,

Wanted,

And needed,

So desperately.
